10 ways to effectively use FriendFeed to your benefit

Although FriendFeed is the youngest of the major social networks, it’s already growing in speed and height. Bloggers suspect that Friendfeed might eventually surpass Twitter in popularity. Because of this, and due to some demand, I’ll be posting a few ways you can use FriendFeed to your advantage:

  1. Submit stories – This is the first and obvious thing you should do with FriendFeed. Find stories you like, and submit them.
  2. Find Rooms – Rooms in FriendFeed allow people to see news that relates to a specific topic. Find these rooms to learn more about your particular niche.
  3. Create rooms – Can’t find a room that deals with your niche? CREATE ONE! It’s simple and effective. Plus, it also helps boost your reputation with a particular niche as well.
  4. Offer your blog as a service to a room  – Friendfeed rooms have the ability to have services delivered directly to the room. For instance, the Problogger room in FF has Problogger’s RSS feed as a service for the room. Talk to the Admin of a room and suggest your blog, and if they like it, your feed will now go to the members of that room!
  5. Offer to help admin a room – If a room has a lot of people, and only one admin, offer to help administrate the room. Be ready for rejection, though, because not a lot of people will want to just tack on any admin who asks.
  6. Submit your own material to rooms – If you’ve written something you think would work well in a room, submit it so everyone else can see it! Don’t be an egotist, though.
  7. Comment! – Friendfeed, like any social network, should not be considered a one-way street: Read other people’s links and comments, and comment on them as well if you wish. You’ll eventually be seen as a regular commenter, which will help you generate popularity.
  8. Reshare things you like to other rooms – See something you like on someone’s feed? Send it to a room! You’ll be doing them a favor, and you can reap some benefit as well!
  9. Invite others to rooms – Know people who could benefit from a room? Invite them to join in, and get even more power to that room!
  10. Subscribe to people – Be sure to add people whose stuff you like as friends in friendfeed, so you can be informed of whatever they do next!

Happy Friendfeeding! Thanks to Dave Levy for the idea!
