A few years ago, under another alias, I wrote a story about an Earth from the future. I published the timeline as well, including various references to both Microsoft and Apple. As the timeline progressed to the time of that novel, I wrote that there were people who thought that the Mac was a god, and that Windows was satan. Basically, a real, complete religion spawned from Apple, many years after its destruction for reasons unrelated to the corp.

We may not have to wait a thousand years. Already, people are taking a side in the batter between Mac and PC. Both sides have groups that fervently praise the glory of their side, while admonishing the other side every chance they get. It really bites, because it lowers the chance of any actual unity between the two OSes.

And people like me, who can work in either environment, are reaping the benefits. I have my personal opinions, but Microsoft needs to stop throwing its weight everywhere, and Apple needs to learn how to share. That’s essentially my gripes for both companies.
