Today I’ll be reviewing the new Problogger book by Darren Rowse and Chris Garett. This is a book I recommend if you’re starting out in problogging or want to learn more problogging tips, but if you’re not in the mood to make money online, or are already making a good amount, I don’t recommend the book.

That being said, the one thing you need to realize (and one thing I’m happy that the book makes a point of) is that blogging is not a get rich quick scheme. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to become a full-time blogger, and it’s not for everyone (myself included.) I also commend the realism in the book about said work, and how there is more to a blog then just adverting, something I wish certain bloggers would learn…

The book goes into detail about everything blog-wise, From how to set up a blog (they recommend starting with a free blog and working up to your own domain name) to selecting a niche, something I only recently did with Ad Rhetorica. There is also advice on selecting a domain name (Which I wish I followed, not that I don’t regret my choice,) and creating one’s headlines.

I love, however, that a point is made on making good content, rather then relying on SEO. Content is not king, it’s God. I do use some aspects of SEO, but I don’t flaunt it like it’s the greatest thing on earth. Kudos to Rowse and Garett for sticking with the original point of the blog: WRITING.

There is one thing I strongly disagree with, and that is the idea of “flipping” blogs. Flipping comes from the real estate technique of buying a crappy house, fixing it up, and re-selling it, in a sense, flipping the house back onto the market. I feel that this was one of the contributors to the housing crash in the United States, and I feel that it can cause nothing but problems in the long run for the Blogosphere.

Aside from that, however, This is a great book for those who want to consider blogging as a second income, or for those new to blogging who want to see what it means to be a professional blogger. If you plan on going pro, or at least want to make a little money online, it’s a good, easy book to read.
