The US Army must really be desperate…or maybe they need more techy people. Either way, TUAW reports that the US army is planning to create an Apple Store Ripoff dedicated to recruiting people into the army.

The store recruitment center, according to Brand Week, will have “three large simulators with full-scale mock-ups of Army equipment and wrap-around 270-degree video screens.” They’re clearly attempting to rip Apple, as well as ESPN. Says the article:

“If you think of a classic recruitment center, [all of] its forms and brochures are about as exciting as the post office,” said Marc Babej, partner at Reason Inc., a marketing consultancy in New York. “Why talk about it when you can demonstrate it.”

Seriously, is the army of one trying to be the iArmy? Or is the army trying to turn itself into the army of Starship Troopers, where you’re either a civilian or a citizen…and service always guarantees citizenship…

I digress. I bet you that we might just see some Army vs Navy commercials real soon….Apple style. I’d love to see those…or maybe it’s Veteran vs citizen. Whatever the case, the army wants new meat.

In any case, odds are it will fail miserably. As Richard Laermer puts it:

“I’ll bet you that in a very short amount of time they will get rid of [the recruitment centers] because of a public outcry. People are going to get mad about it.”
