Ok, I officially regret getting pissed during WWDC when Six Apart took the stage and talked about their contribution to the glorious iPhone, but now that I’ve seen their Facebook blogging application, I’m fairly happy about using it when the 10 dollar upgrade comes out hopefully on June 27th. Until then, Six Apart released an iPhone edition, which you can use by clicking here if you use an iPhone.
The app allows you to upload to a number of blogs, from the usual Six Apart offerings of Vox, Typepad and any Movable Type blog, to former SA blogs like LiveJournal, to bloggers on rival software like Blogger and Wordpress. This is a smart move on SA’s part, because it gets more people into working with their blogs away from their computer.
Mashable’s Paul Glazowsky offers a description of blogs that work with Blogit:
What’s bound to trigger the interest of many iPhone fans in the custom-crafted Blog It service is its multi-service utility. What does this mean? In addition to working with Movable Type, and Typepad’s Vox service, users can now post content to Blogger, Tumblr, Twitter, Jaiku, LiveJournal, FriendFeed, Facebook, Pownce, LiveJournal, Wordpress.com and WordPress.org. Quite comprehensive indeed.
One big problem with this, however, is that it requires OpenID to use, something that not a lot of people know about. David Recordon wrote on Six Apart’s Blog that SA works to fix this by relying on Yahoo’s interepretation of OpenID for those unaware of it, which will then link to the Blogit application on Facebook if you installed it.
It’s a bit clunky, but it’s a good step. I don’t think I’d post long blog entries such as this on my iTouch, but shorter posts, journal entries, and Twitters are always good coming straight from the mouth, rather then waiting for a computer.
