It sickens me that sites like Lifehacker and Consumerist will refuse to implement trackbacks into their blogs, yet are more then happy to take in traffic (albeit not a lot) by pingbacking sites they link to. You don’t just write some amazing post and keep it all to yourself.

The simple truth is that others have almost a right to piggyback off of your posts. You might find it unfair, but remember, these are bloggers who are among those who helped your blog reach the heights that it currently reigns under, so in a way, you owe those who helped you get to the top.

Furthermore, it also increases communication between other blogs! If you shut off that connection, your blog will look like its inhabting a desert island next to a party island. You don’t want this. You want that blog to be part of the party. Hence, allow it to accept the connections of other sites when offered!

If you take away one thing from this blog, it should be this: Your obligation as a blogger is to the blogosphere first.
