It pleases me to know that when most people don’t think of bloggers, they don’t think of LiveJournal anymore. Sorry, but I honestly do not believe LJ to be a real blogging platform. It had nowhere near the abilities of Wordpress, Blogger, MT, or any real blogging platform. Nevertheless, it seems that blogging could potentially make people smarter. Brix of The Blog Herald writes:

It is often difficult for us to hold more than one thought in mind at a time. Writing our ideas down makes the vague and abstract become clear and concrete. When our thoughts are on paper, we see relationships and are able to analyze ideas better. Writing, it seems, makes us smarter.

I’d buy it. Why do you think we have so many papers to do in college? But a step further on this article is how we can learn from other blogs as well. New information allows us to create more connections in our brains. Translation: We learn new things.

Think about it. Very few people like to write, much less blog. You are among the elite on the internet. The task before you is one that up until recently was only in the hands of the media:

To inform, educate and entertain.

That is the purpose of the Blogger. Not to sound cheesy, but you have an obligation to those unable or unwilling to blog by being their blogger. Whether your blog uncovers the latest incident at a controversial company, teaches people how to perform a new skill, or merely shows pictures of cats wanting cheeseburgers, you are a blogger, and your reason for existence as a blogger is the people.

Again, were it not for other people, why would you blog? Always remember to put your readers first, as the readers are the most important part of any blog. Bloggers who disregard their readers often end up on washout lane. You are a citizen of the Blogosphere. Do your duty to your readers.
