One of the reasons why you now see me at jtdabbagian.com, instead of my wordpress.com account, is that I wanted to have the ability to make a good degree of money from writing in this blog.
I’ve written about this before, and many others have written about ways you can make money off your blog. In fact, Leo Barbuta wrote in Freelance Switch recently several tips on being a freelance blogger, with this one being my favorite:
Don’t quit your day job. Even if you’d like to become a full-time free-lance writer and eventually quit your job, don’t do it just yet. Test the waters and sharpen your skills before you do anything drastic. I suggest free-lance [SIC] blogging on the side for at least a few months (if you’re already an experienced writer) and for 6 months or more if you’re completely new to the game. Get good at what you do, develop a relationship with blogs that pay, and get a feel for the workflow necessary.
Another thing I keep hearing about is how some blogs are just basically a walking advertisement. It’s different then a splog, which is entirely spam, but people just basically pound their entries with affiliate ads, and other things of the matter. Yes, I’m going to be putting some affiliate ads in here. If I get too massive with them, PLEASE TELL ME.
Lastly, I’m also going to start putting in an occasional reviewed post. It’s a little antsy, but I think it works well. I’ll do a few every month, and each will have this saying, if I can put it on their:
This review is sponsored, but is definitely not biased!
That should take care of any naysayers. Don’t worry, I won’t be too vicious….
Just as a final quick tip, if you’re new to website control, you might want to Force your HTACCESS file to take people to www.domain.com, rather then domain.com. It’ll keep Google from putting you in the bottom of the barrel. (NOTE: PLEASE BE SURE TO UPDATE YOUR WORDPRESS/BLOG URLS when you do this, or else your categories will mess up! See here for more info.)
And if you still haven’t updated to my new site, please do so! Also, I’m looking for a nice theme, since Sapphire for non WP-hosted blogs doesn’t do widgets. This is Ocadia’s theme. If you have a nicer one, let me know.
